Winter in PERTH once again- June 2015- Midnight flight and DAY 1 (where lots of things went wrong)

This year, we re-visited Perth as the kids plus the parents were reminiscing their time in Perth through all the photos taken last year. The kids wanted to feed the kangaroo, see koala bears, see bear and feed some goats! Mummy and daddy missed the tiramisu from Ciao Italia as well!!!! And so hubby and me kept a lookout for cheap flights to Perth.. 

We waited and waited and finally Jetstar is having ONE-FOR-ONE promotion! It is a really great deal and we manage to book the deal during June School Holidays!!! Got the deal at $250 per person including tax, luggage allowances (25kg to and 50kg fro) and 3 sets of meals on our way back! Timing is a little odd though but I guess it makes up with the cheap flights. We will be reaching Perth close to midnight and coming back early morning so will be kinda wasting 2 nights of hotel stay in Perth but after working out the additional hotel charges, it is still cheaper than the other flights so we decided to go with this!

Kiddos are super excited on the days leading to the trip. They kept asking us when we will be going. Keep repeating wanna meet kangaroo, koala and the bear! Seriously, I don't even know which bear they wanna see, I personally don't remember seeing any bear on my last trip. I was thinking probably they are referring to the cute wombat which is super adorable by the way.

After much anticipation, the day has come! Yay!!! Our flight is at 6pm and the plan is to go to the airport at 3pm so that we have extra time for the playground. Tried to get the kids to nap at 1pm but to no avail. Both of them are too excited and did not want to nap at all. 


Even though we make extra time for the playground and dinner, we ended up being the last few person to board but luckily not to the extent of names being called! Phew!

Flight reached ahead of time and we manage to check out uneventfully. Then hubby said “ Oh no, I forget my winter jacket!!!!” OMG!!!! Based on our last year’s experience, daytime is usually quite ok but nighttime is pretty chilly and windy. It is almost 11pm already when we landed! It was windy but luckily still not that freezing!

Bought OPTUS card as last year cause it is still the best deal, coverage is good and now they even have the banner in Chinese!
We quickly grab a taxi and checked in at Hotel Ibis Budget Perth Airport that is about 15 minutes away! Cleaned the kids up and after some milk/biscuit to fill kiddo's stomach, the kids fall asleep.

Meanwhile, hubby tried to get the Optus Sim Card to work but to no avail and so we slept!

 Note: For Ibis Budget Perth Airport hotel, to be honest my review is good location but small budget basic room and the price is on the high side. You can probably get a much better hotel at this price. We only choose this because it is close to the airport and we didn't want to travel much as we reached in midnight. Personally, I would not recommend this hotel unless you are only considering about the location. Plus, the heater in the room is not really very warm and we were there in winter so it is quite chilly for me.

DAY 1

The next morning, hubby woke up early, took a bus to collect our rental car. He did some research on how to get to the car rental office before we arrive so that we can do some budgeting for this trip. Well, bus is the cheapest, he manage to go to the car rental place for AUD$2.90 instead of AUD$15-20 for taxi fare! Good savings!!! 

Kiddos only woke up close to 10am, so I had to rush a bit. I settle the kids breakfast and shower so that we could get to our second accommodation which I booked via stayz.com. For Australia trip, I usually book via stayz as the service charge is cheaper than AirBnB and based on my own research, the prices are more competitive as well.

This time round we booked from Avis instead of Hertz as they offer good prices. We booked one week of Toyota Camry plus one car seat for AUD $300.

I am ready...Let's go!
We had to rush as I had inform the house owner that we will arrived at 11am. Actually by the time, I already got a bad feeling. Prior to coming, we kept having issues with this apartment that we booked. First of all, the credit card payment on Stayz did not work out (some technical issue at the website) and when we tried paying using paypal (hubby’s computer hang for the first time in many years). In the end, we still make payment but the owner did not reply me after informing us of the address and that she will meet us at the house. No phone number is given although I requested for it!

We arrived at the apartment at 11am as agreed previously and we waited. Almost asking each and everyone that came along whether he/she is “Tash”, the owner name given to us. We even went up to the apartment a couple of times to check if anyone is at home etc… no guard around and no neighbours seems to know him/her too! 

Started to get a little panic, lots of things come to mind. Where to stay tonight? What happen to Tash? After an hour of waiting, we decided to just go for lunch, as everyone is hungry and we are unable to contact "Tash". Our Optus Sim Card also does not work and hubby’s phone roaming is super slow!!!!

On our way to lunch, I found this super old email send by Stayz requesting for payment (the one that the link doesn’t work due to credit card service maintenance or something), and I found "Tash" phone number!!!! I quickly gave her a call and luckily she picked up. Though she is unable to meet us, but she told us how to get into the house. Phew.. at least we have a place to stay for tonight.

Initially, we wanted to lunch at iPho to reminiscing the last time we are in Fremantle and then…. it’s opening hours on weekday is 3pm-9pm ONLY!!! Only weekend is opened for lunch and dinner. Oh, really very unlucky. 

We ended up eating at The Monk and the food is pricey and not very nice. I wonder why the restaurant is considered much packed than its adjacent restaurant…Oh well...

We went for this restaurant also because of the relatively positive review on TripAdvisor. I have to agree that the ambience is good, outdoor seating with nice breeze but the food did not live up to expectation and also, price is on the high side.

After that we went to Woolsworth to get some groceries and then went back to the apartment. Luckily, we managed to get in with the instructions J

Everyone is exhausted from the late flight yesterday and all the waiting in the morning, so after checking in and the kids ate an ice cream from Woolsworth, everyone went for a nap. Plus, it was raining too. We slept until 6 plus before all of us woke up and went for dinner.

In between nap, Tash actually dropped by and passed us ONE toilet roll and a few tablecloth. She even said we had to clean up the table, floor and toilet before leaving. Phew….. This is the first time I had to clean up a place before leaving. Of course, the usual instruction is to maintain a relatively clean and tidy place, throw rubbish etc but this is the first time we were given strict instructions to clean the whole place before leaving. 

Anyway, dinner is uneventful except it started raining again…. We managed to dine at iPho. Food is good and I must say that the food in iPho is pretty authentic. I just went to Vietnam a week before coming to Perth so can really taste the similarity :)  We had Com Tan (broken rice with grilled pork chop). The rice is really authentic broken rice and pork chop is very flavourful. Yummy!

We went back after dinner as it was raining so no chance to play the outdoor playground which the kids enjoyed last year.We showered and we had a good night sleep! Tomorrow we will be hitting Caversham Wildlife Park, hopefully tomorrow we will have much better luck! Ciao...

Kidzoona indoor playground at Jusco Bukit Indah, Johor, Malaysia.

We recently brought the kids to Kizoona at Jusco Bukit Indah. I find it very worth it in terms of the price and the facilities are also pretty good.  The place is not big but there is enough things for the kids to spend a few hours there... Includes bouncing castle, some individual shops (flower shop, cafe, supermarket for kids to play around), a big pool of ball, some cars, and a huge rolling ball-like thing where kids can go in and rotate. Fully air conditioned and there is only one entrance to go in and out. Parents can stay inside to accompany your kids at no additional charge. Just remember to bring your own socks otherwise have to purchase before going in. Toilet is not in the playground so there only cons is have to bring the kids out to toilet. Tickets are for a whole day so unlimited entry throughout the day.  Kids can play, go our for lunch and then come back and play again.  If there is two of you looking after the kids , can take turn to go shop

Great for family/ friends bonding- KUKUP 2 day 1 night TRIP

Situated in Pontian District, Johor, Malaysia- KUKUP Fishing Village is a wonderful place for family/friends bonding.  The chalets are build on the sea and there is not much attractions around the area so basically most activities are done in or around the chalet which is great for bonding. There is no place to park the car in front of the chalet as all of the chalets are build on water, so do park your car (if you are driving) at the designated car park before the jetty. We parked at JJ Carpark (RM7 for 24 hours) and the staff send us to the jetty area using his van. We can then walk or take a boat to the chalet.  We decided to walk....and we manage to enjoyed a cooling and refreshing coconut pudding on the way... Staycation @ Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, Singapore

How often does one step foot in Changi Airport and not catching a flight or picking someone up? For those who are staying in the east of Singapore, some might just go to the airport and enjoy their facilities, had some food, play at the playground or even do some groceries shopping. I think I am a little outdated as I did not even know that Changi Airport has NTUC as well (and their prices are not more expensive that the rest of NTUC). However, for someone like me who stay in the West, I hardly step foot at Changi Airport unless I am flying off someone or picking up someone. For me to take a MRT or drive to Changi Airport is a big commitment as it is not exactly near and there are so many nearby playground and shopping mall that I can enjoy within minutes from my house.  I hardly walk around the airport properly as I am usually rushing to catch a flight. Winter in Perth 2014 (Day 1 and 2)

First travel blog post on our 2 weeks trip to Perth, Australia in June/July 2014. This is our first solo family trip abroad (2 adults to 2 kids). Rest 'N' Relax @ Desaru Tunamaya Resort & Spa (3 days 2 nights)

This year for the year end school holiday, after much consideration and pretty last minute, we decided to go for a rest and relax trip at Desaru. Travel tips to Perth in Winter

My first travel post will be sharing our family winter trip in Perth.  HOW LONG TO GO: Our trip is 2 weeks long as part of it is hubby's business trip, a trip of 5-7 days will be sufficient. For those planning for a trip this June School Holiday , Perth is actually quite a nice place to go. In contrary to normal believe that weather is bad in Australia in winter, we actually find it quite cooling and not too windy or rainy as long as you avoid Busselton and Margaret River area. Focus your trip to Perth up to Rockingham and anywhere to the north of Perth will have cooling and sunny weather most of the time. Check out the Perth weather forecast   here. Family Trip 2017 @ Cameron Highland, Malaysia (Day 2)

Today we will be on our way to Cameron Highland for a 4 days 3 nights stay.... After a good night sleep, we woke up at 9am and had breakfast in room. Kids ate bread while hubby and me had some instant noodles. We then showered and checked out at 11am.  Meanwhile, my parents and sister's family woke up earlier and started their journey around 7am from Johor.  Toy from a stop at highway, very happy I also bought some toy from Mr DIY yesterday night for the kids to colour during the trip. We drive up to Ipoh for dim sum as our lunch. Restaurant Foh San is very well known and been around for many years. They have renovated since the last time I visited. Chinese New Year Celebration in Dubai

This is our second year residing in Dubai and Chinese New Year is not a public holiday in the UAE. This year we decided to stay in Dubai as there is no school holiday that coincides with the Chinese New Year period. There is a few celebrations going on as there is quite a number of Chinese in UAE. There is lion dance competition at Dubai Park and Resort, lion/dragon dance parade at City Walk and some celebrations at Jumeirah Lake Towers. Many Chinese restaurants offer reunion dinner package (at a premium price of course) and some renowned hotels offer buffets with Chinese new year theme.  One week before the celebration, I started making some Chinese new year cookies/snacks to get into the mood. My favourite is the pineapple tarts to symbolise wealth. I even attempted to make the fillings from scratch but I have to admit it is a lot of work for 36 tarts that I make. A short trip to Oman, Jewel of Arabia (Part 2)

And our adventure began after a good night sleep. Today is our only full day in Muscat so we are gonna make full use of it. We had simple breakfast in our room and set off to the town of Quriyat. Our first stop is the small fishing village of Quriyat. It is a lovely small town and we chance upon a nice breakfast shop selling lovely Omani Bread. It was so good we ordered two extra servings. We paid OR$1.40 for 3 omani bread, tea and some flatbread. Omani Bread Omani cheese and egg bread with an extra crunch from chips A lovely treat for our brekkie  After a satisfying breakfast, we were on our way to the first attraction of the day, Bimah Sinkhole. It is easy to reach with proper road and proper carpark. The sinkhole is located in a park and there are proper staircase leading towards it. Rise and Shine Phuket November 2014

After planning for many years, finally we had our first family trip to Phuket. We (8 adults and 2 kids) had a great 4 days 3 nights trip with great time bonding and chatting. Everyone in the family went except my youngest sis's daughter who is just 1 month plus.. but i am sure she will be joining for the upcoming family trip :) 26th November 2014 Our flight is at 8.30am, so we got out of our house at 6am, planning to reach the airport by 6.30am. There are no cars on the road but the cabbie driver exercise extra caution and drove super slow... we reached at 6.40am, and my mum they all already queueing to check-in and had to let a few other passengers to go before them as we haven't arrive...so check in is fast since we are already first in the queue when we reached. Quickly proceed to boarding gate and after passing the immigration, we had about an hour for breakfast before boarding. Had a quick breakfast at Bakerzin as there are not so much choices at Terminal 1...
